Survival is second nature for sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen, who struggles to feed her mother and younger sister by secretly hunting and gathering beyond the fences of District 12. When Katniss steps in to take the place of her sister in the Hunger Games, she knows it may be her death sentence. If she is to survive, she must weigh survival against humanity and life against love. "
As usual I'm behind on the times.
I found a bought this book probably a year back and never even made it past the first chapter, something about how popular it had become had pushed me away. The first chapter being a bit slow didn't help.
So when I find that I can get the book for free on my Kindle fire, well there's that, it's time for a real read. Boy was I glad that I did. From start to finish, the book was completed in one night and I was tired. Not for myself, or my lack of sleep, but for the exhausting trip the characters took.
Needless to say I enjoyed this book, so let me tell you about it.
Katniss is a first. We're all used to the Mary-Sue main character, and Katniss wasn't it. Our author knew this character, and the effect her life had on her. She's a bid cunning, a bit ruthless, and definitely a good shot. So when she is found volunteering for the hunger games to save her 12 year old sister from being forced into it, I wondered. 'Will she make it?'
After years of reading books and watching television I've gotten used to the idea that the main character survives. This book had me unsure really unsure, and I won't spoil it for you. As a matter of fact, this is probably one of the best parts. You don't know if she is going to survive, even in the last chapter and her every triumph, is yours. Even more, the book gets you involved with other side character and now you're wondering if really they'll be the ones to survive instead of Katniss.
The book is thrilling to the end, the story a bit hearwarming, but too heartbreaking to make you smile, and at the end of it you will be ruffling your hair in frustration wanting to know what happens next. Warning, there is a cliffhanger.
All in all, I loved this book, it was beautiful. I recommend reading it. So for your benefit I'm posting an amazon-link to it in this post, and a link to some possible amazon coupons, so you can get it for cheaper!>
